Stepping Up to Overture 29
PCA passed Overture 29 with over 90% of the Assembly voting. Overture 29 – improved in the middle and last sections of the proposed amendment.
This year’s Overture 29 seeks to prompt questions in the examination, instruction, and discipline of officers and candidates for office. As theological debate about how best to apply the doctrine of sanctification to modern sexuality has arisen in the Church, one approach emphasizes the issue of language and self-identification. This is the attraction of this... Continue Reading
Overture 15 – The Tipping Point for a Split in the PCA?
What happens in the PCA if Overture 15 is not approved by 2/3 of the Presbyteries?
The following is the wording of Overture 15 approved by the General Assembly: “Men who describe themselves as homosexual, even those who describe themselves as homosexual and claim to practice celibacy by refraining from homosexual conduct, are disqualified from holding office in the Presbyterian Church in America.” The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) is... Exploring Overture 15 from the PCA General Assembly
Considering Overture 15 in light of the Westminster Standards, the PCA’s own AIC Report of Human Sexuality, and Overture 29 itself.
This issue has caused disunity, confusion, and chaos in the PCA for far too long. If we desire that this particular sword should depart our house, then we will acknowledge that Overture 29 needs Overture 15 to be effective and pass both through our presbyteries. The two overtures go hand-in-hand. The one works through the... Continue Reading
What To Do About Greg Johnson?
Over the past 4 years, Greg Johnson and his allies have attacked disagreeing brothers in the PCA and the greater Church of Christ with accusations of homophobia and hard-heartedness.
As an ordained PCA minister, his participation in Revoice and his determination to embrace a gay lifestyle and culture has given comfort and aid to one of the great modern movements attacking the church and orthodoxy. Furthermore, he has continued to write, speak, and make money off his self-ascribed role as a gay martyr trying... Continue Reading
A Review of SJC Case 2021-13, Dudt v. Northwest Georgia Presbytery
This is the heart of the issue: The church has a process by which minority opinions can be voiced without them becoming causes for disturbing the peace of the church.
We all know that process can be manipulated. The Pharisees were masters of external conformity combined with internal corruption. Somehow the work of the SJC must take into account the destruction that can be wrought in the life of a church by a determined minority circularizing the congregation with defamatory information while misusing and manipulating... 2022 General Assembly Update: Good Things Are Happening In The PCA
The 2022 General Assembly was held in Birmingham, AL, from June 20-23, the birthplace of the PCA.
BCO 16-4 as amended would read: “ Officers in the Presbyterian Church in America must be above reproach in their walk and Christlike in their character. While office bearers will see spiritual perfection only in glory, they will continue in this life to confess and to mortify remaining sins in light of God’s work of... Continue Reading

Racism and the 2022 OPC General Assembly
Many reports have been made about the allegations of racism and the Assembly’s subsequent statements which were published online.
The game should be familiar by now, but evidently it isn’t. So let’s review the rules. There are no rules. This is how the game is played. An allegation is made. It does not have to be credible; the alleged offense simply has to be egregious. Social virtue requires the allegation be accepted at face... Continue Reading
Presbyterian Church in America Votes to Leave National Association of Evangelicals
Commissioners for the Presbyterian Church in America approved a motion to leave the National Association of Evangelicals on Wednesday (June 22) at the PCA’s General Assembly in Birmingham, Alabama.
Commissioners speaking in support of leaving the National Association of Evangelicals said they were not sure what benefit the denomination received from its membership in the organization. They argued the denomination did not need the association to speak for its members when the General Assembly is the voice of the denomination. (RNS)—Commissioners for the... Continue Reading
What Happened at the RPCNA Synod 2022?
The 190th annual synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America (RPCNA) met on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, June 20-23, 2022.
Much of this year’s time dealt with complaints…The complaints dealt primarily with two categories this year. The first category had to do with responses to Covid regulations and freedoms. The second set of complaints dealt with the Synod Judicial Commission (SJC) that was set up to investigate the pastoral response to a sexual abuse case... Continue Reading
