Why I Love Acts 29 & Why I’m Leaving
While we won’t remain a member of Acts 29 in 2017, I do have the desire to continue to partner with like-minded congregations for the expansion of Christ’s kingdom
“All differences aside, however, I am generally encouraged by the direction of the Acts 29 Network, and regardless of how much the remaining member churches continue to move towards a more denominational identity or not, I am supportive of their desire to plant reformed, Gospel-centered congregations.” In March of 2017 I will have been a... Our Appreciation for the Conservative Resurgence: A Response to Paige Patterson
So how do some Southern Baptists respond when a pillar of the denomination seems to invite the Calvinists in the SBC to leave and identify as Presbyterians?
I’m not sure that Dr. Patterson understands that his personal sacrifices in the battle for the Bible have resulted in the theological resurgence we are currently experiencing, a resurgence in which the soteriology of Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Fuller, Judson, Dagg, Boyce, Broadus, and Criswell is being recovered, discussed, and applied among so many of our pastors... Donor Illusion: Giving Money to The WAY-FM Doesn’t Feed a Hungry Sudanese Child for a Month
The bottom line, the $100 helps WAY-FM and doesn’t “provide a month of hot meals to these refugee kids.”
In an email, a representative from WAY-FM very candidly explained that Feed the Hungry wasn’t withholding food while waiting for WAY-FM donors to give $100. I was informed that the partnership was about mutual benefit and that Feed the Hungry just wanted WAY-FM listeners to feel a part of it. Listening to The WAY-FM... Continue Reading
Chip And Joanna Gaines Do What They Were Criticized for: They Go To Church
HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines attended church Sunday
“In times of trouble.. you’ll find the gaines family at church,” Chip Gaines tweeted on Sunday morning, days after the celebrity couple were lambasted by Buzzfeed and Cosmopolitan magazine for attending Antioch Community Church in Waco, Texas, where Pastor Jimmy Seibert has preached that the practice of homosexuality is a sin. HGTV stars Chip and... Continue Reading
Statement on Covenant College Students Kneeling and Praying During the National Anthem
A statement from Covenant College clarifying its position regarding some basketball team members kneeling and praying during the singing of the national anthem at home basketball games.
As an institution rooted firmly in the tradition of Christian liberal arts education, the College does not shy away from addressing difficult issues. Ours is a world that is marred by sin, and a significant part of our calling as a Christian academic community is to equip our students with a biblical frame of reference... Continue Reading
Mothers in the Church
Every believing woman who grows to maturity becomes, in her time, a spiritual mother to those following behind, whether she ever becomes a mom in physical terms.
It is the calling of every believing woman to submit to the command to be fruitful and multiply, to fill the earth with image bearers. This means that for us, the term empty nester can never truly be applied. There is comfort for me in knowing this truth as I watch my biological children grow up and leave home. I suspect and hope there is comfort in this truth for any believing woman, biological mother or not. None of us needs ever to question our usefulness in the household of God. We have only to draw the next searching fledgling under our wing.
Why Liberal Theology Has Led To Shrinking Congregations
We found it is conservative theology — with its emphasis on the factual truth of scripture and God’s activity in the world — that fuels church growth.
Paradox is intimately and profoundly connected to the Christian experience. Christians are told such things as “the first shall be last” and “to save your life you must lose it.” Now we can add a new paradox to the list: conservative theology leads to church growth and liberal theology leads to decline. Since the... Continue Reading
How A Reformed Church Overthrew Communism In Romania
The story of a Hungarian Reformed congregation that would rather bring down the government than part with their pastor.
A few days after Christmas, Pastor Peter Dugulescu opened the door of the hospital ward where Daniel Gavra had been taken after he was shot. The boy was still recuperating, his wounds bandaged and a stump where his left leg had been. But Daniel’s spirit had not been shattered. “Pastor,” he said, “I don’t mind... Continue Reading
The Too Visible Church
Churches today seem to be vying to be THE ONE SEEN.
In other words, the church should not worry about being seen by man, i.e. of being too visible, but rather to consider of first importance how is it being viewed by God. For that is the tenor of the New Testament. While the visible church should be bold in preaching the gospel and acts of mercy, and indeed shine its light to the world, still the manner of accomplishing these things should be that of faithful service that avoids seeking the spotlight. We are not to let our left hand know what our right hand is giving, and we are not to pray on street corners to be seen (Matt. 6:3-5). We are not to minister so as to seek man’s approval (Gal. 1:10). We are not to exalt ourselves, but humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God (I Pet. 5:5-6).
No, it’s Not Time for Christians to Celebrate Pre-Marital Sex
Jones calls on Christians to adopt a new sexual ethic that gives a pass to premarital sex
Everywhere one turns we see a sex-saturated culture. Pornography, hook-up apps, adultery websites. Lust is a very present battle men and women need help and support to overcome. So many of us find that help from the Church, whether found in pastoral ministry, Christian counselors, or mature Christian mentors who hold us accountable.
