Reformed Theological Seminary has announced the appointment of The Reverend Tim McKeown as executive director of their Houston campus located at Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Tim was been the Coordinator of Hispanic Ministries for the PCA’s Mission to North America.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES:
Tim McKeown currently coordinates the Hispanic Ministries for Mission to North America of the Presbyterian Church in America. He has served ministry and leadership positions with both Mission to the World and Mission to North America since 1978.
He served as a missionary in Ecuador for 11 years and then in Columbia for 5 years, before becoming the Andean Region Coordinator for MTW from 1994 to 1999.
He then joined mission to North America as the Coordinator of Multi-Cultural Church Planting, serving in that position through 2005. Beginning that year, Tim’s position focused solely on Hispanic ministries.
He is a 1977 RTS graduate and has served as a church planter and associate pastor in Florida. A South Carolina native, he completed his undergraduate education at USC. From there he entered the Air Force and received his pilot training at Reese AFB in Lubbock, Texas. While in Texas he met his wife, Rebecca Sue Jackson of El Paso. They have four grown children.
Tim graciously provided The Aquila Report with his thoughts and plans resulting from this appointement:
My wife and I are honored and humbled to accept the call of Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) as their new Executive Director for the Houston Campus. It is with great excitement that we move to Becky’s native state of Texas and to the exciting city of Houston with all of its international flavor and the Latino context in particular!
The Latino demographic in the United States is one of the fastest growing groups. They are also younger than the national average. Texas is one of five states where Caucasians are no longer the majority people group and by 2040-50 the entire United States will share in this change. Houston is the third largest city in the United States and boasts a huge and influential Latino population. God has once again surprised us with His unmistakable calling into this context and we are responding once again in faithful obedience to His call!
Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church is generously hosting the startup campus of RTS – Houston. Their pastor, Rev. John Crimmins, and the entire congregation not only share our heart for preparing men and women from all peoples, tribes, nations, and tongues for church ministry but they also want to see healthy Kingdom churches planted and multiplied. It is an accepted fact that wherever RTS has established a seminary campus increased church planting has also resulted. Becky and I are excited to be a part of God’s plan of church planting multiplication.
While the Houston campus of Reformed Theological Seminary will continue to focus on the traditional communities to whom it has historically served, this new campus is also uniquely positioned to serve the diverse and broad communities that compose Houston, Texas, and the Western United States – particularly our beloved Latino brothers and sisters!
RTS was founded in 1966 and is now one of the largest seminaries in the United States. RTS/Houston began offering classes in August of 2010. Other campuses are located in Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington D.C., Orlando, Jackson, Memphis and a Virtual campus that offers an online Master of Arts degree.
Established as an independent institution with a self perpetuating board of directors, Reformed Theological Seminary is committed to training pastors and leaders to help build strong local churches across denominational lines. RTS is strongly committed to the authority and truthfulness of the Bible and to an orthodox understanding of theology.
Registration for the spring term at RTS/Houston will begin December 1. Dr. Derek Thomas will teach Scripture/God/Anthropology and Dr. James Anderson will teach Apologetics. For a list of upcoming classes at RTS/Houston, click here.
