Liberty University plans to file a lawsuit if Congress passes and the President signs health care legislation.
Mathew Staver heads Liberty Counsel and the university’s law school. Staver tells us Congress does not have the constitutional authority to force individuals to have health insurance or businesses to provide it.
“The core issue of this health care bill is beyond health care,“ says Staver. “If Congress has the authority to pass these individual mandates forcing everyone to carry insurance, then what else can Congress do? Their power is absolutely unlimited. That would override all of our liberty and freedom of choice. Congress clearly doesn’t have that authority.“
The university will be joined by other religious institutions, businesses, organizations and individuals as plaintiffs, if the lawsuit is filed.
