The repertoire includes Russian classics and folk music, along with sacred American favorites, such as the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s “Messiah.”
A unique taste of culture via music is making its way to Rainbow Presbyterian Church in Rainbow City.
The Belarus National Christian Choir, comprising about 28 choir members and a four-piece instrumental ensemble from Belarus ranging from 17 to 70 in age, will be in concert at the church Oct. 11.
The concert is set for 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, but a love offering will be taken to support Belarusian pastors and their families as they lead home churches throughout Belarus.
In December, Rainbow Presbyterian’s missions committee presented choir director Paul Edmondson an application for Rainbow to be included in the Belarus National Christian Choir’s U.S. tour. The church was accepted as part of the tour in January.
“The application process didn’t take long,” Edmondson said.
The choir has a tour manager based in Chattanooga, Tenn., and the group will be coming to the church from Montgomery on Monday.
Families from RPC will be hosting the members of the choir in their homes Monday and Tuesday night.
Edmondson said hearing music from an international culture is an experience many people from the community may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy.
“Music is a universal language, and the love of God can be shared by all people through music,” Edmondson said.
