Christ has overcome the power of Hell and unleashed the power of grace, but as we endure these final days before Jesus’ Return, Satan is violent and venomous in his final throws. He seeks to exterminate children, to abuse children, and to deny children love, hope, and the knowledge of God. In modern America, Satan’s hate for Eve’s offspring is most heinously exemplified in the holocaust of abortion.

Every time I read the news I fully expect to see Christ coming down out of the clouds within the next 24 hours. Between ISIS hacking off heads, Planned Parenthood wiping 5.3 million plus souls off the face of the earth, mass shootings, and an assortment of other horrors, it has seemed to me for a while that we couldn’t come much closer to the debauchery of Sodom & Gomorrah without incurring a rain of fire from Heaven.

Until now.

The sheep’s clothing has officially been discarded by the wolf, at least in Detroit. That’s where an abortion advocacy group, The Satanic Temple, has acquired a nine foot tall bronze statue of Baphomet. They unveiled the monstrosity this past Saturday during a kick off party for the group’s legal efforts to have the idol erected beside a Ten Commandments monument at the Arkansas State Capitol.

It is disturbingly appropriate that an abortion advocacy group would use The Devil – a demon that slaughters babies in droves and represents everything God is against – for their icon. The perversion of Sodom & Gomorrah is no longer our destination; we’ve officially arrived. We’ve returned to the profane ways of Molech and we’ve honored Satan’s obsession with infanticide. An undeniable connection between abortion and demon-worship has now been established in modern America.

Your Children & Your Children’s Children

“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” Exodus 34:6-7

As Pastor Mark Altrogge put it in a recent article, “God would rather pour out mercy than wrath.” God consistently and continually warns mankind that it’s not just them but their children who will suffer because of their sin. God issues these warnings so that should mankind choose to obey, the consequences of sin can be averted. Nevertheless, mankind sins anyway, ad nauseam.

But it’s not just God’s chosen people of Israel who are warned and held accountable for sin. Consider the Plagues of Egypt. After Pharaoh ignores warning after warning, pleading after pleading, and demonstration after demonstration of God’s earnestness and power, God admonishes Egypt’s ruler one last time that the consequence of sin is death.

“Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt, and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the cattle.’” Exodus 11:4

This was the tenth warning God had given the hardhearted ruler of Egypt. Nine times He had sent Moses with a message; nine times He had been forced to deliver on His threats. Nevertheless, in true Anti-Christ fashion – just as God is willing to sacrifice His Firstborn to save the world – Pharaoh is willing to sacrifice a thousand firstborns in order to enslave it.

But this pattern of behavior is not unique to Pharaoh. People throughout the Bible and throughout extra-Biblical history have a tradition of bowing to the influence of Satan, warring against God, and worshiping everything from demonic idols to their own selfish desires. Tragically, it’s often babies and children who pay the heaviest price for mankind’s wickedness.

That Ancient Serpent

In Genesis 3:15 God swore to Satan, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

On that day back in The Garden, Satan didn’t know what God had planned. He couldn’t foresee that God’s own Son would come down from Heaven, die on the cross, and then rise again, triggering an explosion of grace that would light up the whole world. All Satan knew was that one of Eve’s offspring would someday crush his head, and he’s been waging war against children and God’s people ever since.

Long before the 10 Plagues of Egypt, shortly before Moses was even born, Pharaoh sought to slim down his slave population by commanding the midwives, “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” Exodus 1:16. When the midwives refused, Pharaoh sent out a nation-wide command that all Hebrew baby boys must be drowned in The River Nile. That is why Moses’ mother hid him in a reed basket and floated him downstream to where Pharaoh’s tenderhearted daughter was bathing. That is also why the 10th Plague of the Death of the Firstborn was such a clear and direct message to Pharaoh of God’s judgement against him.

One of the most horrifying examples of Satan’s obsession with infanticide is the abomination of Molech. In order to worship their demonic god, Old Testament parents burned their young children alive as sacrifices. Mentions of God’s wrath against the “profane abomination” of Moloch can be found scattered throughout Leviticus, 1 & 2 Kings, Jeremiah, Amos, and Acts. Satan’s religion of death had surrounded Israel for centuries. Slowly but surely it infiltrated Israel’s culture until it infected the very throne room of Solomon.

“Now King Solomon loved many foreign women … And his wives turned away his heart … Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem.” 1 Kings 11:1-7

The Hunt For The Child Grows Dire

The pattern of child sacrifice, and children suffering the consequences of their parent’s sin, continues with maddening repetition straight through the Old Testament and into the New. When Herod heard that the promised King of the Jews had been born in Jerusalem, Matthew 2:3 tells us, “he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.” While Herod’s worldly motivation for concern may have been fear of losing political power, there’s no doubt that Satan was working behind the scenes to manipulate his paranoia and bloodthirsty ways.

“Then Herod … sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: ‘A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.’” – Matthew 2:16-18

“And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness …”

Needless to say, Jesus escaped Herod’s evil plot, and by the time He began His earthly ministry, Satan and his demons were in full panic-mode. In Matthew 8, Jesus meets two demon-possessed men, and the spirits within them cry out,“What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”

Note the phrase, “before The Time?” These demons thought this was The End. They had no concept at this point of Jesus’ First Coming and Second Coming. They hypothesized that Christ had come to “torment” them before finally and fatally crushing Satan’s head. They were terrified.

A Failed Strategy

Satan spent all of Old Testament history waging war against Eve’s offspring, slaughtering children, and luring God’s people into idolatry. That strategy failed. Despite millions upon millions of dead babies and idolatrous souls, Christ was still born, Christ still grew up, and Christ launched a very successful ministry.

At that point, Satan bent all his powers toward killing Jesus, not realizing that Jesus came down to earth fully intending to become the ultimate sacrifice for sin. Can you imagine the glee Satan must have felt when Jesus breathed His last breath? Thousands of years worth of painstaking debauchery and barbarism had lead up to that pivotal moment. Perhaps he had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. So when Christ not only rose from the dead, but ascended into Heaven after promising to return one last time, the crucifixion of God’s only begotten Child completely and gloriously backfired on him.

The Blind Rage Of A Sore Loser

Satan thought he had defeated Jesus when his minions nailed Him to a cross. Ironically, “[Satan] was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” Revelation 12:9

Satan’s tradition of child-hatred is longstanding and pervasive, but in the 21^stCentury world, it seems to be growing both in intensity and power. Because the Son of God has escaped the Devil’s vile plot for His death, the children of man and the Bride of Christ now feel the unmitigated wrath of a wicked sore loser.

Like Moses and the prophets of old, we are called to repeatedly warn mankind that the penalty of sin is death. There is no need for Abraham to sacrifice Isaac; God has provided a Ram. There is no need for our children to suffer the consequences of sin; God has subject His own Child to suffer it on their behalf. Like Pharaoh, many may repeatedly harden their hearts, but we must not be discouraged! The Spirit will apply in the hearts of some the redemption purchased by Christ, by working faith in their souls, uniting them to Christ in our effectual calling. That is our hope. That is our prayer. As Isaac Watts wrote,“Pity the nations, O our God! Constrain the earth to come; send Thy victorious Word abroad, and bring the strangers home.”

We as Christians should not be surprised that The Satanic Temple is a cult that promotes abortion. We should not be caught off guard when Planned Parenthood executives talk so coolly about harvesting and selling infant body parts. We should not be astounded when the world around us shows symptoms of demonic influence. That’s not to say we shouldn’t be appalled or put up a fight, but this is as it has been since Adam fell, and this is as it will be until Christ returns. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
