5 Things We Do Today Instead of Preach the Word
The preaching of the gospel has become so watered down that the non-elect can’t even reject it.
I wish I could tell you that most pastors are preaching the Word. I can’t—some are not. Here are five things we may choose to do instead of preach the Word.
PCUSA membership goes down, down, down
From 1998-2011 the annual average loss is 47,826 departing members per year
The larger picture warrants increasing skepticism that the denomination will survive the 21stcentury. At the current average of losses over the last 14 years – a time zone that is marked by the most radical changes in the denomination’s history – the lights will go out in about a half century.
‘Lost confidence’
Publisher Thomas Nelson decides to pull David Barton’s controversial book on Thomas Jefferson’s faith
“…in the course of our review learned that there were some historical details included in the book that were not adequately supported. Because of these deficiencies we decided that it was in the best interest of our readers to stop the publication and distribution.”
Strange Bedfellows: Dissing ‘Christian’ America
Americans United for Separation of Church and State praise the NAE
The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), having just rejected that America is a Christian nation, has earned unsought praise from the ultra liberal and secularist Americans United for the Separation for Church and State (AU). “The NAE represents a broad swath of evangelical denominations, so these results give us some cause to celebrate,” recently... Were the old Calvinists like today’s Islamists?
Calvinist ideas that to us seem intolerably theocratic dominated not just the Netherlands, but also New England, Switzerland and Scotland
There are a number of Calvinists out there today who would espouse virtually all of these views (perhaps even tyrannicide? I’m not sure …). I don’t think most Reformed Christians give the time of day to these thinkers, but there is a minority that is with them all the way.

Why US Sikhs have feared attack for more than a decade
Sikhs, who wear distinctive clothing as acts of faith, have been on high alert in America since the 9/11 attacks
Sikhs, who follow teachings passed down by a series of gurus, or spiritual guides, are defined both by appearance and belief in a single god. Rituals are forbidden, as are cutting and shaving hair. They don’t fast, have no worship attendance requirements, have no clergy, and disavow “superstition.” They also shun intoxicants, alcohol and tobacco.
Derek Thomas’ Commentary on Acts Finalist for Prestigious Christian Book Award
All volumes in the REC series are written by pastor-scholars, and the content is scholarly but not academic.
In his exposition of Acts, Thomas points to evidence of the continuing ministry of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. He applies biblical truth in contemporary context as he presents lessons for missions, church growth, and Christians’ engagement with postmodernity.
Calvinism has roots in Southern Baptist history
Dockery now sees various streams within the convention: fundamentalists, revivalists, orthodox Evangelicals, and Calvinists.
"To a Wesleyan," Dockery said, "Southern Baptists are Calvinists because we believe in eternal security, which Wesleyans do not. But to Presbyterians, who hold to a plurality of elders and infant baptism, we are not Calvinists"
