Dear London Partners,
It has been a great fall here in London. The days have been unusually sunny and warm – until this week. Now it is rainy and dark by 4:00 p.m.!
Kathy and I have experienced God’s grace in some profound ways over the past several months. We are learning to pray more effectively for people and growing in our dependence on the Spirit’s presence and power. We are so thankful that God never gives up on His beloved children.
Our team is still working to bring Jesus and His kingdom to Camden Market traders. We pray and do ministry weekly in the Market, read the Bible with the one trader we know who is a Christian (and we have met hundreds), and have a monthly worship gathering. We have yet to see a trader begin to follow Jesus, but we have had many great conversations about Jesus. Most of these traders are far, far away from any understanding or experience of Christ and His redemption.
Our work with Market traders involves stories like that of Gwen – a dreadlocked young trader from Holland.
She worked in a stall with clothing from India and Hindu gods and goddesses on display. One day I asked her how she was doing. She responded, “Not too well.” As we chatted I sensed the Spirit pushing me to pray for her. I asked Gwen if I could pray and surprisingly she said “yes”. I prayed for Jesus to help her and set her free from her oppression. As I prayed, tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Some time later Gwen was gone from the Market. Friends indicated that something bad had happened. We mourned for a lost friendship with Gwen, for no more opportunities to share the love of Jesus with her, and were left wondering what drug she might have overdosed on. We can only trust that Jesus will continue to pursue her.
Without your love and support young people like Gwen would never hear about Jesus.
Thank you for giving us the privilege of bringing Christ to those whom He loves on the margins of mainstream society – “the tax collectors and sinners” of Camden.
In the bonds of Christ’s love,
John and Kathy
Please Pray for these Areas of our Ministry:
· That we would see Market traders come to faith in Christ and that a church would be established in the Camden Market.
· That our team would discern the will of God concerning the significant decisions we need to make for the new year.
· That we would have wisdom in mentoring young church planters and leaders.
