At its opening session on Tuesday, June 19, the 40th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America elected TE Michael Ross as moderator by acclamation. The PCA General Assembly is holding its annual meeting in the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Ky., through June 22. Dr. Ross is Pastor of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church in Matthews, N.C., a suburb of Charlotte.

His name was placed in nomination by Dr. Ligon Duncan, Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS.

Dr. Ross, a native of Columbus, Ohio, was called from a career in business to Christian service at the age of twenty-seven. He holds a B.S. from Ohio State University degree in Business Administration, a MBA in Management from Miami (Ohio) University.  He also did post graduate study in Economics and Public Administration at Memphis State University. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Biblical Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi.

At the start of his seminary training, Dr. Ross expected to become a missionary, but his professors and others urged him to use his gifts in the pulpit and as a pastor. His first ministry was as the organizing pastor of the Surfside Presbyterian Church in Surfside Beach, just outside of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he served from 1982 to 1992.

Dr. Ross accepted the call to be Pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mississippi where led this congregation through major growth and the launch of a strong sister congregation, Redeemer Presbyterian that remained in the church’s original location when Trinity purchased a new campus to minister while remaining in the city of Jackson.

In 2006, Dr. Ross became Pastor of Christ Covenant where he has led the officers and congregation through reorganization to sharpen focus on the church’s mission and provide more opportunities for direct ministry within the congregation, to the community and in global outreach.

Dr. Ross is an author with a particular interest in church revitalization. He has authored two books Preaching for Revitalization and The Light of the Psalms: Deepening Your Faith with Every Psalm.  And since 2002 when it began, Ross has authored the Bible studies for the PCA’s 50 Days of Prayer booklet.  He has a growing national speaking ministry, daily and weekly radio programs, and serves as an adjunct professor at Reformed Theological Seminary.

He and his wife Jane are residents of Mint Hill, North Carolina. They have four children and five grandchildren.
