Providence Presbytery met on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010 at North Hills Presbyterian Church in Meridianville, Alabama
The Moderator, RE John Bise, opened the meeting with prayer, welcomed our guests. Special guests included, Captain Tim Fary, PCA Chaplin and member of Western Carolina Presbytery, TE Wayne Herring of Nashville Presbytery, TE Dr. Roy Taylor of Georgia Foothills Presbytery and TE John Robertson of Warrior Presbytery, along with TE Corbett Heimberger of Evangel Presbytery and director of the Alabama Church Planting Network.
After the welcome from the host church the reports of the stated meeting began with the Candidates and Credentials Committee presenting candidate Mr. Roy Hubbard for the licensure examination and passed. The Presbytery found him to have no exceptions to the Westminster Standards. Mr. Hubbard is beginning the work of Reformed University Fellowship at Alabama A&M, which began in 1875 and will be the second RUF on a Historic Black College and University (HBCU) the first being Jackson State University. There are 104 HBCU in the country. Mr. Hubbard grew up in New Orleans, LA a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and a M.Div from Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, MS.
Other reports from came from the Pastoral Care Committee, the MNA Committee on the church planting works and the upcoming particularization of Valley Presbyterian in Madison.
The MTW Liaison reported on the work of our missionaries and the RUM Committee heard a report from our campus minister, TE Brad Tubbesing who serves at the University of Alabama, Huntsville.
RE John Bise gave a brief report on the 38th General Assembly and encouraged all churches to be more involved in the work of future General Assemblies.
The morning worship was led by Senior Pastor of North Hills Presbyterian Church, TE Adam Tisdale. He preached from 1 Corinthians 11:1 – entitled “Leadership That Follows” which was followed by a celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
Following lunch, the court heard a special report from the Administrative Committee of the PCA, TE Wayne Herring began the report with information about the function of the Administrative Committee he was followed by TE John Robertson who reported on the details of the workings of the AC and specific aspects of the Funding Plan Model.
Following his report TE Dr. Roy Taylor gave a report about the proposed changes to the BCO for the implementation of the AC Funding Aspects of the Strategic Plan. The court asked general questions to gain a better understanding of the plan and funding so that discussion and debate will occur in our November meeting about the plan and BCO changes. Dr. Taylor said more information will be coming shortly.
The next stated meeting will be held November 9th 2010 at the Southwood Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. The meeting was closed with a reading of Psalm 133 and prayer by TE Alex Shipman.
